B.Com NBU (New syllabus)

If you are a student of North Bengal University and are confused about your commerce syllabus, you are not alone. The university has been changing syllabi almost every year for the last few years, and it is difficult for teachers to keep track of the changes let alone the students. 

In 2024, the 1st year, 2nd year and 3rd year students would be following 3 different syllabi due to this. If you wish to understand the structure, please read on. Present Syllabus in 2024

The North Bengal University B.Com course is semester-based. The new course structure has been introduced in 2023. The entire course is now of 4 years duration. However, students can opt to undertake the course for 1,2,3 or 4 years. 
A student completing 1st year of the course (2 semesters) is eligible to get a Certificate (40 credits).
A student is eligible to get a Diploma after completing 2nd year (4 semesters) of the course (82 credits). 
On completion of 3 years (6 semesters) a student can get a bachelors degree (124 credits).
On completion of 4 years (8 semesters) a student can get a bachelors degree with honours (160 credits).
The course is now divided into following types of subjects.

i.  Major course (MAJ) – 75 marks each – 4 credits 

Ii. Minor courses (MIN) – 75 marks each – 4 credits 

iii. Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC) – 50 marks each – 2 credits 

iv. Multidisciplinary Courses (MDC) – 75 marks each – 3 credits 

v. Value Added Courses (VAC) – 100 marks each – 4 credits 

vi. Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) – 75 marks each – 3 credits 

vii. Internship/Apprenticeship (IARD) – 50 marks each – 2 credits  viii. Research Project/Dissertation (IARD) – 225 marks each (applicable only if the student chooses to pursue Honours with Research) – 12 credits

The focus of options classes is on the core practical papers. These papers require regular practice and regular sessions to understand and score. However, at our coaching, we also provide regular sessions on the theoretical papers. Study material, question and answers based on past trend is also provided to students. For the language papers and non-core subjects no coaching is provided. Students mostly cover these papers based on self-study.
